* Warnings about this post: 1. It is super long! 2. There are two themes throughout this vacation. Zoos and football stadiums. *
Day One:
We left Jackson on Tuesday morning and headed to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Matt found us a really fun place to eat lunch. It was called City Cafe. When we got there it was standing room only. We should have taken a picture. Matt got chicken fried steak, macaroni, fried green tomatoes, and fried okra (with a sweet tea). I had beef tips over rice, macaroni, and fried green tomatoes. IT WAS DELICIOUS! It was fried heaven. :)
We walked around the downtown area for a few minutes and then we left. On the way out of town we drove through the University of Alabama campus. Matt got to see their football stadium.
We drove from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham and went to the zoo. It was cold.
(We did see and take pictures of animals, but we saw SO many animals I thought I would spare you all.)
After the zoo we were all very tired. We went to the hotel and spent the night.
Day Two:
We left Birmingham and headed to Atlanta. We checked into the hotel in Atlanta. It was right in the heart of downtown. It was within walking distance of the things we wanted to go and do.
We headed out in the cold to the World of Coca Cola. It was lots of fun. Tons to see and read about.
These are some of the Olympic torches.
We got to see it being bottled. It was like we were watching Unwrapped!
This is the couch from the 5th season of American Idol. Jealous?
Texas Coke art!
Then there was a tasting room. We got to taste different coke products from all over the world. We tried like 30 or 40 different kinds of drinks. There were some pretty good ones and some REALLY gross ones.
This is Matt tasting the "Beverly". It is a licorice flavored soda. HORRIBLE!
After you tried all the flavors you could go and rinse out the flavors with your favorite American Coke.
Don't worry we were just pretending!
We also got to try gingerbread Coke for the holidays. It was not bad at all.
Grey also got to meet the Coke polar bear. Matt and I were SURE he would freak out....nope. Did not phase him. But try to get him into the stroller....I think not!
Enjoy Coke!
That night for dinner we went to The Varsity. It is the world's largest drive-in. It was great! They yell at you and the food was great!
This is Matt with his 2nd hot dog, his frosted orange drink, and a fried pie.
Day Three:
We woke up and headed to the Georgia Aquarium. The worlds largest aquarium. It was AWESOME!!!
Pictures don't do it justice. It was just beautiful. Baby Grey liked it too
because he could stare at all the stuff swimming around.
There was a walk-through aquarium with whale-sharks and tons of sting rays.
In one of the rooms Santa was cleaning the glass and feeding fish. Who knew he had time for that during this busy season! He even waved at Grey!
We touched some sharks and sting rays.
We even got to see Beluga whales. Never seen those before!
That night Matt took us to a little pizza place. (We had seriously considered eating at The Varsity again.)
Day Four:
We checked out of the hotel and headed for the Atlanta zoo.
Highlights of the Atlanta zoo were the Giant Pandas and the gorillas.
We left Atlanta and drove a different way out of Georgia. We went through Auburn and drove through their campus so Matt could see the stadium.
Then we headed on to Montgomery, Alabama.
We just relaxed and watched a little TV before bed.
Day Five:
We left the hotel and headed to the Montgomery zoo. We went through downtown and got to see some historic buildings.
We thought that the Montgomery zoo was going to pale in comparison to the other zoos we had seen. We were impressed! It was a great zoo.
We got to feed otters!!!
And there was a tiny baby monkey that was sooo cute.
About half way through the zoo I looked down and noticed that Grey's foot was naked. I mean no sock OR shoe. A shoe I could understand. But he had somehow worked off a sock and a shoe. We went back and found them in two different locations :)
This is Matt being sad that the white tigers and white tiger babies I had promised him were temporarily off display.
We left Montgomery and headed back to Jackson. We wore out the baby so much he slept the ENTIRE way home.
We had a lot of fun on our Zoo-cation :)
